Mucky Mutts provides dog grooming service for small to medium sized dogs. Dogs will be accepted for grooming after the owner (or other responsible person) has completed and signed a Customer Declaration Form. By signing the form, you are deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions.

Your details are kept by Mucky Mutts and are referred to when needed. Your information is not shared with anyone. It is the owner’s responsibility to keep Mucky Mutts up to date if your details should change.

Please ensure your dog has had an adequate chance to relieve itself before you attend the appointment. And please bag up your dog's mess and put it in the bin if your dog relieves itself outside our studio and home.

Salon exclusivity

Mucky Mutts operates by appointment only and quoted prices includes salon exclusivity, helping to ensure a calm, low risk environment. Multiple dogs are allowed in the grooming area only if they’re from the same household.

Your Mucky Mutts' health and welfare

As a level-3 OCN professional diploma in dog grooming, Mucky Mutts is committed to practicing the highest standards of safety and care. Mucky Mutts is also a member of The Groomer’s Spotlight, an organisation formed to celebrate fully qualified groomers and the art of professional dog grooming. The aim of the Groomers Spotlight is to champion and promote professional pet groomers and Mucky Mutts is proud to have achieved the ‘Groomers Spotlight Standard’.

When your dog is with us, its health and welfare is our main concern at all stages of the grooming process. Should we believe your dog is experiencing any fear or stress at any time, we will where possible employ alternative strategies to alleviate this. This may require extra time or sessions to overcome this problem. During grooming it is possible pre-existing conditions are noticed, which you will be informed of, so you can seek veterinary advice.

Health

Grooming procedures and the environment can be stressful for some dogs, particularly if they’re senior, young, overweight or have any medical conditions. While Mucky Mutts makes every effort to provide additional support to these dogs, we cannot guarantee that your dog will be able to safely continue and reserve the right to stop the grooming process at any time with payment in full being due.

Mucky Mutts is unable to groom in-season bitches and will only provide upkeep services to pregnant dogs, such as face, paws, and hygiene areas. Should your bitch be in season during the time of a pre-booked appointment 24 hours’ notice must be provided.

Mucky Mutts can provide external gland expression as required, as part of the full groom service, but internal expression is veterinary procedure and therefore your dog must be referred to your vet.

Medical conditions

A groom can also uncover unknown medical conditions or potentially aggravate a current one. While unlikely, in the best interest of your dog this agreement gives Mucky Mutts permission to obtain emergency veterinary treatment if it’s deemed necessary.

We will do our best to contact you prior to taking your pet for treatment, however this may not always be feasible.

Fleas/ticks

Mucky Mutts aims to be an environment free from fleas and ticks. If you find your dog does have any fleas or ticks, we will ask that you reschedule your grooming appointment once your pet is free from infestation. We recommend that you contact your veterinarian to provide you with the best treatment. If fleas are found on your dog while grooming, we will use a flea shampoo treatment and will need to disinfect and flea spray our premises and equipment after your dog has left, so an additional £5 will be charged to your bill.

If ticks are found an additional £5 will be charged for removal for the use of anti-bacterial and anti-septic spray. Mucky Mutts won’t be held responsible for any infection caused by the tick or removal thereof.

Accidents

Mucky Mutts’ grooming equipment is kept sharp to ensure high performance. Even though we use extreme caution and care in all situations, there’s always the possibility that an accident could occur, which could include cuts, nicks, scratches and quickening of the nails.

We make every effort to ensure your dog is groomed as safely as possible, but accidents are more likely if a dog moves and wiggles a lot during a groom. If, however, your dog does not accept the grooming process it can be dangerous to continue, so Mucky Mutts will decide in the best interests of your dog, for instance, such as stopping the groom or undertaking several smaller sessions.

Condition of coat

Mucky Mutts practices humanity before vanity and is proud to abide by the Animal Welfare Act of 2006.

The health and condition of a dog’s coat and skin are the responsibility of the owner, as their duty of care towards their dog, to avoid severe matting. Dealing with a neglected coat is very different to removing small knots, tangles, and isolated matted hair as part of a grooming process, which can be achieved quickly without causing anxiety, stress or pain.

If your dog has a heavily matted coat, Muck Mutts believes it is kinder to shave it back and will remove the coat using electric clippers, which can sometimes cause skin irritation or skin nicks from the close shaving. Mucky Mutts will not be held responsible for any affect that this has after the grooming session is complete. This process will be done in compliance with The Animal Welfare Act 2006 (Sec 5. Animals are to be protected from pain, injury, and suffering).

Failure to regularly brush a dog’s coat can lead to the build-up of mats close to the skin that cannot be brushed out without causing the dog distress. If you are unsure which tools and / or products to use to groom your dog with between appointments please ask, we're happy to help and advise you.

By using our services, owners understand that their dogs will not be subjected to extensive de-matting procedures in order to attempt to keep the coat long and acknowledge that their dog may need to be clipped short should they be found to have heavy matting.

Behaviour

Mucky Mutts caters to dogs with nervous traits, but owners must inform us of any such behaviours in order for us to serve their needs to the best of our ability.

Owners are also obligated to inform us of any known aggressive behaviours to people, other pets or any specific grooming procedures. In the event any of these behaviours present during the groom, Mucky Mutts reserves the right to muzzle your dog or ask you to muzzle your own dog. We also reserve the right to refuse or stop service if we believe your dog may become a danger to itself or anyone else. If your dog should bite, the owner agrees to be responsible for any and all related medical bills, recovery costs, loss of income and equipment damage. Your attention is drawn to the dangerous dogs act which holds owners liable for bites and injuries.

Pricing

The price of a full groom depends on the size of the dog. Example prices for illustration is provided on the prices page, but please contact me for a price for your dog.

Additional costs may be incurred if your dog requires flea or tick treatment.

Payment

Payment is due on collection of your dog. Mucky Mutts accepts both cash and card payment.

Missed appointments and cancellations

While we understand that sometimes appointments have to be cancelled in an emergency, as a small business Mucky Mutts asks that you give provide at least 24 hours’ notice where possible, as this will enable us to offer the appointment to another customer. We schedule a set amount of time to groom your dog and a missed appointment means someone else has lost the opportunity to have their pet groomed in your time slot.

Mucky Mutts messages customers 24 hours prior to an appointment as a helpful reminder, to try and reduce the chance of any missed appointments. However, in some circumstances you may incur a cancellation/missed appointment fee which will be payable before any further appointments can be made.
